Nao,The first robot ever which can feel emotions

The first prototype of robots that are capable of developing emotions as they interact with humans have been finalized by British researchers.
The robots are capable of expressing anger, fear, sadness, happiness, excitement and pride and will demonstrate very visible distress if the caregiver fails to provide them comfort when confronted by a stressful situation that they cannot cope with or to interact with them when they need it, the researchers at the University of Hertforshire said. They worked with a number of other universities and robot companies across Europe.
"This behaviour is modelled on what a young child does," lead researcher Dr. Lola Canamero said in a release. “This is also very similar to the way chimpanzees and other non-human primates develop affective bonds with their caregivers.”Canamero said this is the first time that early attachment models of human and non-human primates have been used to program robots that develop emotions in interaction with humans.“We are working on non-verbal cues and the emotions are revealed through physical postures, gestures and movements of the body rather than facial or verbal expression,” Canamero said.
Robot named Nao,has been designed who can feel the emotions and capable of forming bonds with humans,it has emotional skills like one year old child and uses same type of expressive behaviours that babies use to learn to interact socially and emotionally with others.
It can detect human emotions by reading body language and facial expressions and becomes better at reading someone's mind with passage of time just like grown ups.It can also memories faces of different people and remebers intractions with them.It is capable of expressing anger, fear, sadness, happiness, excitement and pride and will get upset if the human fails to comfort it or when confronted by a stressful situation that they cannot cope with. The scientists believe that robots like Nao could be used in the future to give care to the elderly.

It is a part of a European project called Feelix Growing, and the project is a collaboration between eight universities and robotic companies across the EU.
